2015 was an incredible year for Standing Voice, with an array of milestones and accomplishments. In twelve short months we expanded our Skin Cancer Prevention Programme to serve 9 regions of Northern and Western Tanzania. We enlarged our Vision Programme to screen and examine 734 beneficiaries. We launched an international Volunteering Programme; refurbished the Kilimanjaro Sunscreen Production Unit in Moshi, Tanzania; and continued forging bonds with communities across Tanzania, cementing our decade-long relationship with the residents of Ukerewe Island in particular, where we completed construction of a state-of-the-art community centre. We screened In the Shadow of the Sun in 50 African countries; presented at advocacy events hosted by the World Bank and UN; played key roles at albinism conferences in Cameroon and Tanzania; and coordinated hugely successful celebrations of the first International Albinism Awareness Day in Tanzania and Switzerland. Most recently we presented at the first Pan-African Albinism Conference, held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where we delivered life-saving health services to representatives of albinism associations from 29 African countries.
We continued to build our team—in the UK and in Africa—and established new offices in Tanzania. We received grants from the Bilton Charitable Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, the International Foundation of Applied Disability Research, Kennington Overseas Aid, and the Evan Cornish Foundation. We signed a deal with the Essilor Vision Foundation to support thousands of children with albinism, and staged a unique fundraising endurance event in the Scottish Highlands.
