A Reason to Run

Standing Voice is an international NGO working to prevent the human rights violations of people with albinism in Africa. Our work spans Health, Education, Community, and Advocacy.

Ostracised as 'white ghosts' in otherwise black-skinned communities, people born with the genetic condition of albinism face unthinkable segregation and violence in many African societies due to their pale appearance. Many struggle to access healthcare, education, housing and employment. This stigma finds its most gruesome expression in murder or mutilation of body parts, used in witchcraft charms thought to bring wealth and fortune: a criminal trade that has directly precipitated 202 documented killings, and a total of 515 attacks, across 28 African countries since 2006.

Support for You

Not only will you be helping to change the lives of some of the most marginalised people on earth, but you will also receive:

  • A dedicated fundraising team ready to lend individual help and support
  • A fundraising pack bursting with ideas and tips on how best to reach your target
  • A free Standing Voice running t-shirt for the big day
  • Access to further fundraising materials
  • A loud and enthusiastic themed cheer station on route

How will my sponsorship help?

Your donations will go a long way towards preventing human rights violations against people with albinism. Below are some examples of how your fundraising efforts will change lives:

  • £10 could provide a wide-brimmed hat to help a person with albinism stay safe in the sun
  • £18 could provide a person with albinism with a year's supply of Tanzanian-made sunscreen
  • £25 could provide prescription glasses to a child with albinism and transform their educational experience
  • £40 could provide books and school uniform to a student with albinism for a year
  • £200 could provide life-saving dermato-surgery to treat skin cancer

This race is more than just crossing the finish line. By joining Team SV, you will be ensuring that our essential, life-saving work can continue. See you at the start line!
