A New Low Vision Partnership

This year we have continued to deliver Vision clinics in locations across Tanzania. We have trained ten Tanzanian optometrists and two ophthalmic nurses, recruiting two new optometrists to join our Vision Programme Team!

In March we coordinated a 3-day event delivering low vision care and education to 302 patients with albinism from across the Lake Zone of Tanzania. This event launched a three-year partnership between Standing Voice and Vision For Life, a charitable initiative created by Essilor, the world’s leading lens producer and a specialist in ophthalmic optics.

Service delivery was led by Standing Voice Vision Programme Director Dr Rebecca Kammer and our team of in-country optometrists. The event was coordinated with the support of key partners Vision For Life, Under The Same Sun, the Tanzania Albinism Society, the New Light Children Center Organisation, the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre School of Optometry, and the Tanzania Optometric Association.

Vision For Life has pledged thousands of corrective lenses and sunglasses in support of our Vision Programme. These will equip Standing Voice to expand its current service, improving educational opportunities and visual health for children with albinism by providing examinations, prescription glasses, magnifiers, sunglasses and education to 4,200 students.
